Historical

Joseph Bonaparte, was the elder brother of Napoleon Bonaparte, who was King of Naples between the years 1806-1808. And in the years 1808-1813 was appointed King of Spain.

After his brother's fall, he first went into exile in Switzerland in 1814, where he resided at Prangins Castle on Lake Geneva until Napoleon's return from Elba. During the reign of the Hundred Days, Joseph conducted the affairs of state in Paris.

He then emigrated to the United States. He remained in the United States for 17 years before returning to Europe.
In 1844, Joseph Bonaparte died in Florence and, like Napoléon, was buried in the Invalides Cathedral in Paris.
