Christian I (1560-1591) from the House of Wettin was the only son of the Elector Augustus of Saxony and his wife Princess Anna of Denmark, who reached adulthood. After the death of his older brother Alexander, he was assigned to the duties of an Elector at a young age. In 1582 he married Princess Sophie of Brandenburg, with whom he had two sons and five daughters.
In 1586 he took over the government after his father died. Despite his extensive education, he had no great interest in the affairs of the state; hunting, drinking and other pleasures were far more important to him.
Presumably, this life brought him to his early end: During a hunt, he succumbed to a stomach and intestinal disease at the age of 31.
