The legion V "Alaudae", by Caesar, came to Xanten during Augustus’ reign. In 69 A.D. the legion supported Vitellius. Therefore, Vespasian sent it to Moesia after his victory. However, it was destroyed during the Dacian Wars 86 A.D.
